Homemade Dog Food

Basic Diet for Dogs

Some of the ingredients.

3 large hard boiled eggs (or 1/3lb chicken, beef, turkey, other meat)
2 cups long grain rice (dogs digest white easier than brown)
2 tablespoons sardines in tomato sauce (provides B12 & flavor)
2 tablespoons chicken fat or canola oil
1/4 teaspoon potassium chloride (salt substitute)

This diet provides 964kcal, 34gm of protien & 49gm of fat. Supports the daily calorie needs of a 33lb dog

For vitamins and minerals ad as follows:
I crush the vitamins & bonemeal
  •      4 bonemeal tablets (10 grain or equivalent)  or 1 tsp bonemeal       powder
  •      Multivitan n(dog) per package directions, I like Canine Plus by Vetriscience
  •      Omega 3 & 6
  •      Fresh, raw, or steamed veggies (avoid excess broccoli, no grapes, no onions, no avocados
The final actual diet along with the amounts to feed and the need for supplementation should be determined by your vet. I am not a vet. This was made to supplement an emaciated foster who did not enjoy regular food. She has since been adopted & transitioned to normal food.

I use frozen mixed veggies, rinsed VERY well and steamed

Even Betty the cat likes it

Everyone deserves a 2nd chance

You do the crime, you do the time. God forgives.  I recently had a discussion with my mother about Michael Vick which brought up phrases like that.  She went on and on and on about how everyone deserves a 2nd chance and that he had done his time and should be allowed another chance.  I agree.  People can change (except sexual predators, but thats another blog), people do bad things, serve jail time and come out changed people.  They then go one to live in 1/2 way houses, scrape by below poverty level and work cleaning up others trash.  It's a long haul out of jail onto making something of yourself.

What 99% of people who serve jail time are NOT given are million dollar "jobs" the don't have to work at.  They are not given sponsorships, drafted onto chosen teams, given fancy cars and clothes and houses for playing football.  Most convicted felons are not given a silver platter while on probation, most of them have to work for it.

Michael Vick is just another example of our countries screwed view on celebrities and their above the law status....

LuLu

Trying to teach Lulu to skateboard.  Not going so well.  (p.s., the sprite bottle is her favorite toy, hence it's place on the living room floor)

Dance like no one is watching

was pretty bad advice for this guy...

So yesterday I took Moses to McDonalds. I generally try and avoid the place because my large butt does not need to eat a weeks worth of calories in one sitting.  However Moses had just donated blood and was a very good boy so I though he needed a burger or 3.  Apparently McDs is a happen place at 11am on  Tuesday so I had a bit of a wait but thankfully I had some on site entertainment.  I was in line for probably 10min and this guy danced away the whole time oblivious to the rest of the world and his lack of dance skills.

(Please excuse the NPR in the background, I am old now and that is what I listen to)

Welcome to the home of misfit.... dogs

I love Pilgrim, issues and all.  I've recounted numerous times the things he has eaten in my house.  I lived with a "decorated by dog" coffee table till R moved in.  R brought his sectional, his entertainment cubby, his flat screen tv, his x box and other breakable looking electronic devices.

I have warned him.  He knows that there are 2 giant dogs here that sometimes play 'herd of rabid stampeding elephants'. And they sometimes play it inside.

I came home a few weeks ago and the flat screen had been hung - mid wall.  Rather comfy if you are slouching down on the couch & not much taller than 5'2".  I request to make it higher resulted in 5 inches.  It is perfect dog head level.  R had to clean Moses drool off of it.  I give it 2 weeks till it goes up higher.

"Decorated by dog" coffee table was given over to the trash at R's request.  It was far from attractive, however one chew mark blended with the rest.  I was offered Rs coffee table, hand made by his dead grandfather.  I warned, Pi has ADD & hates that R sleeps in HIS side of the bed, it will be fine R assured me, Pi &; I are buds....

I think Pi has taken back his bff request.  The coffee table and its splintered parts are now in the garage. I'm about to google how to glue it back together.  R has gone for a ride.  I'm not sure if it was the table or the fact I couldn't stop laughing when he said... "we can't cater our lives around the dogs"....  he sure does have a lot to learn,
